It has been a big month for our Cathedral Choir as the academic year gets underway! Last Sunday saw the Cathedral community celebrating a number of milestones for our singers, including the formal admission to the Choir of new full choristers, and the promotion of senior choristers to new leadership roles, including our historic 'chanters', endowed by previous generations of supporters of the Cathedral's musical tradition. Our three new Head Choristers, Jay, Thea and Georgie, join existing Head Chorister Leo in leading our chorister teams. 

 

Amongst the adult members of the Foundation, we welcomed Chloe Ellam and Gabriel Jacobson as Choral Scholars, and Michael Chamberlain as Organ Scholar - our Scholarship programme, for young professionals, returns to the Cathedral this year after a hiatus of several years, and we are delighted to be joined by such talented and energetic young musicians. 

 

We also celebrated Henry Kimber's tenth anniversary of singing as a Lay Clerk in the Cathedral Choir - Henry is a much-valued colleague and has made a substantial contribution to our community over the last ten years. 

 

And behind the scenes, our wonderful new crop of probationer (trainee) choristers have started their musical journey, too - we can't wait to follow their progress at Southwark as they take up their part in the Cathedral's wonderful musical heritage.
